Work Share Program

Work share 2010

The workshare program is offered to 4 individuals. 60 hours of labor during the 20 weeks of the CSA Program is expected from a workshare member. This gives a discount of $250 dollars to the CSA member. The day for the workshare member to work will be determined before the season starts. The day chosen will accommodate both the Workshare’s schedule and us the farmers’ schedule. No workshare time is available on Mondays. Every week will be the same time and day unless discussed the prior week.

Those seeking to be in the workshare program must be healthy, physically capable, have a good work ethic, and have a desire to get their hands dirty. The workshare member needs to have the necessary wardrobe to accommodate the elements of nature. There may be a possibility of rescheduling if the weather brings heavy rains because when it rains we generally stay out of the garden to prevent compaction and damage in the garden.

What kind of work will be expected of the Workshare member? A common chore is hand weeding and mulching. Hand tools and the wheelbarrow are continuously used throughout the garden. If you schedule a day when delivering CSA baskets you may be helping with the harvest. If this appeals to you can fill out the application.

An option for those considering the workshare program is you could split a full share with a friend and split the workload with that friend. This would then split the $250 cost between the two of you and each of you could split the hours. For example two of you come to the farm every two weeks for 3 hours (or more if you desire). We have had a workshare member last year do this and it worked great. Also any workshare member can bring a friend to work and we can give that friend some vegetables for their help
